“We wanted something beautiful that we didn’t have to worry about.” A common request — and a design problem, not a maintenance one.
The owners wanted the grounds to look professionally maintained at all times, without the burden of weekly upkeep. Weeds, dead plants and messy edges had been a constant fight.
Our answer was simplicity. Native and adapted planting, permanent stone mulch and continuous concrete curbing take away most of the jobs that make a property look tired — and an ongoing care program handles the rest.

Each element removes a maintenance task: stone instead of bark, curbing instead of trimming, native plants instead of replacements.
Native planting that thrives
A curated mix of native and adapted plants — from the weeping ornamental tree that anchors the corner to layered perennials, white-blooming shrubs and groundcovers. Every one was chosen to thrive in Winnipeg with minimal intervention, resist local pests and return year after year.

Stone beds and concrete curbing
Instead of bark mulch that breaks down and needs replacing, extensive river rock beds keep their look indefinitely — suppressing weeds, holding moisture and complementing the brick exterior.
Crisp poured curbing separates bed from lawn, eliminates edge trimming and stops materials migrating between zones.

Brick walkways and seating
Clay brick pavers in a classic herringbone pattern connect seating areas and entrances — durable, slip-resistant and built to look good for decades. Benches tucked among the planting give residents quiet spots in sun or shade.

Open lawn, ongoing care
Healthy lawn areas give open space, contoured for efficient mowing and on irrigation so they stay green through dry spells. An ongoing maintenance program keeps the whole property looking the way it did on handover.
