The Lawn 'N' Order team at their Winnipeg yard

About us · Winnipeg · est. 1993

More than landscapers. Your neighbours.

Since 1993 we’ve designed, built and looked after Winnipeg properties with in-house specialist teams — design, construction and property care under one roof, nothing subcontracted.

We started as a small lawn care operation in 1993. The equipment changed, the crews grew, and the work got a lot more ambitious — but the reason people call hasn’t changed.

Today Lawn ‘N’ Order is a full design-build company: we draw the plan, run the machines, lay the stone, plant the beds, wire the lights, and come back to look after it. Everything in-house — design, construction and property care as three specialist teams under one roof. No subcontractors handed a drawing they had no part in.

That matters more here than in most places. Red River clay moves. The frost line sits about four feet down. Our build season is short enough that a mistake costs you a summer, not a weekend. Three decades of building in that has taught us exactly which shortcuts cost the client later — so we don’t take them, and we say so out loud when a cheaper quote has taken them.

We’re not contractors who show up and disappear. Whether it’s clearing snow at -40 °C or setting pavers in July, it’s the same company, the same standard, and people you’ll still see next season.

How we got here

From one mower to whole properties.

1993

Founded in Winnipeg as a small lawn care operation, working one neighbourhood at a time.

2000s

Hardscape becomes the core of the business — patios, walkways and retaining walls built to double the base standard because of our clay.

2010s

Design moves in-house. 2D and 3D plans mean clients see and approve the whole property before construction starts.

Today

Complete design-build projects — pools, kitchens, fire, lighting, planting — plus year-round care for the landscapes we build.

Optional — dates to confirmIf you have real milestone years (first award, first pool install, the Sturgeon Rd yard, second crew), give me four and I’ll replace the decade labels with exact dates.

What we hold to

Six standards we don’t move on

These are the reasons our quote isn’t the cheapest one you’ll get — and the reasons the work is still standing.

01

Winnipeg climate knowledge

Three decades of freeze-thaw: what holds, what heaves, what survives a winter and still looks right in July.

02

One company, three specialist teams

Design, construction and property care are separate in-house teams — and the handoff between them is managed, documented and never subbed out.

03

The base gets the money

We double industry base depth on hardscape. It’s invisible, it’s expensive, and it’s the whole difference in ten years.

04

Whole properties, not features

Levels, water, circulation and planting resolved together, so nothing feels bolted on afterwards.

05

Certified and judged

CMHA, Allan Block and Belgard certified, MBNLA members, BBB accredited — with projects judged against the best in the province.

06

Straight answers

We tell you what a project realistically takes before you’re invested in it, including when we’re not the right team.

Honest fit

We’re a great fit for some projects — and the wrong call for others.

Saying this out loud saves everybody a site visit.

A strong fit

  • Complete backyard or whole-property projects
  • Homeowners who want it designed before it’s built
  • Grading, drainage or level problems that need solving properly
  • Properties that want ongoing care from the same company
  • Commercial properties needing reliable seasonal service

Probably not us

  • One-off repairs on another contractor’s install
  • Projects where the base spec has to be cut to hit a price
  • Emergency same-week installs in peak season
  • Mow-only service far outside our routes
  • Work we’d have to sub out to someone we don’t control

Our group

Three companies, one operation

Ditchfield and Eco Bins are ours. That’s why the material on your site is the material we specified, and why the debris leaves the same day it’s dug.

Sister company

Ditchfield Supplies

Our own landscape supply yard — soil, aggregate, decorative stone and mulch. Owning the material side means the base and soil going into your project are the products we’d specify anyway, delivered on our own schedule.

Eco Bins & Cartage

Our own bin rental, disposal and cartage company. Excavated clay, old concrete and construction debris leave the property on our own trucks — no waiting on a third-party bin to free up the driveway.

Lazy Lawn

Synthetic turf systems we install on properties where natural grass never wins — shade, pet traffic and awkward grades.

The same faces, season after season

Designers, operators, hardscape crews, gardeners and snow drivers — all on staff. It’s why a care crew already knows where the irrigation lines run, and why the person quoting your project has built one like it.

We’re hiring most seasons. If you build properly and show up on time, we’d like to talk.
