Ponds & water · Winnipeg
Koi and garden ponds, waterfalls, streams, fountains and pondless features — designed around how much maintenance you actually want, built on Atlantic-OASE equipment, and winterised properly every fall.
A water feature is the only thing in a landscape that works on a sense other than sight — and in a city yard with neighbours on both sides, that turns out to matter more than the look of it.
Moving water masks traffic, air conditioners and conversation from the next deck over. It brings birds in. It gives the yard a focal point that changes through the day instead of sitting still. And in a prairie summer, the sound alone makes a space feel cooler than it is.
The honest part: water is the one element in a yard with an ongoing job attached. A full ecosystem pond with fish is a hobby as much as a feature. A pondless waterfall gives you the same sound with a fraction of the work and no open water — which is why it is what we recommend to most families with young kids.
We build both, on Atlantic-OASE pumps and filtration, sized so the system is quiet and serviceable — and we can look after it all year if you would rather not.
The first decision
Everything else — size, stone, placement, budget — follows from it. This is the conversation we have at the first visit, before anyone talks about waterfall height.
Water cascades over stone and disappears into a hidden reservoir of gravel and basins below grade, then recirculates. All of the sound and movement, none of the open water — and dramatically less to look after.
A living body of water with plants, biological filtration and — usually — fish. It is the more beautiful and more absorbing option, and it is genuinely a hobby: something you tend to rather than something you switch on.
What we build
Most projects combine two — a stream that feeds a pond, a fountain set into a terrace, a dry creek bed that comes alive when the pump is on.

Living ecosystems with fish and aquatic plants, from intimate to expansive, with the depth and filtration to overwinter here.

Natural-looking cascades and meandering streams, standalone as a pondless feature or feeding a pond below.

Classic or modern, formal or self-contained. The lowest-maintenance way to get water into a small or paved space.

One-off features designed around your space, your sound preference and how much maintenance you are honestly up for.
The equipment inside it

We partner with Atlantic-OASE, a leading manufacturer of premium water feature equipment and systems. Their pumps, filtration and lighting are what make a feature reliable and efficient rather than a summer of troubleshooting — and they are serviceable years down the road.

Here is the honest year. If any of it sounds like work you do not want, that is an argument for pondless — or for handing the whole calendar to our care team.
Reservoir and pond cleaned out, pump and filtration restarted, water balanced, planting cut back and divided.
Weekly feeding where there are fish, water level and clarity watched, filters rinsed, skimmer emptied.
Leaves netted out, pumps pulled and stored or left running to spec, lines drained, de-icer and aerator set for fish.
Pondless features shut down dry. Fish ponds keep a gas exchange hole open through the ice — the thing that actually keeps fish alive.
We offer maintenance packages that cover the whole calendar — most of our pond clients take one, and the ponds we maintain are the ones that still look right in year ten.

We repair, rebuild and maintain water features we didn’t install — including the ones that have outgrown their equipment.
How it goes
We listen to the yard — literally. Where the noise comes from, where you sit, where a feature will be heard from inside the house, and how much maintenance you want.
Type, size, stone, planting, equipment and lighting drawn to dimension, with the pump and filtration sized to the feature rather than to the budget.
Excavation, liner or basins, plumbing and equipment, stone set by hand, planting, then commissioning and water balancing.
We show you the pump, the filter, the winterisation routine and the feeding — or put the whole calendar on a maintenance plan.

Water questions
Water features typically run $8,000 – $45,000. A pondless waterfall sits at the lower end, a large ecosystem pond with substantial stonework at the upper. The biggest cost drivers are excavation, the volume of stone and how much of it has to be set by hand.
Yes — with the pond built for it. Three feet or more of depth, aeration, and a de-icer to hold a gas exchange hole open through the ice. Fish overwinter dormant at the bottom; what kills them is not cold, it is a sealed ice cap trapping gases.
An ecosystem pond in summer is weekly: feeding, checking clarity and level, rinsing filters, emptying the skimmer. Plus a spring startup and a fall winterisation. A pondless feature is a fraction of that. We offer packages that cover the whole year if you would rather just enjoy it.
A waterfall or stream that recirculates into a hidden underground reservoir instead of an open pond. Same sound, same movement, no standing water — lower maintenance, less space, and the safe answer with small children around.
Yes. Repairs, equipment upgrades, rebuilds and seasonal maintenance on all types of water features. If a feature is fighting you every summer it is usually undersized equipment or a filtration problem, and both are fixable.
