A backyard that does double duty — a family playground with a putting green, and an entertaining space with container gardens that change every season. 1,500+ sq ft in Tuxedo, built in four weeks.
“We wanted a space where our kids could play — and our friends would never want to leave.” Family fun and refined elegance, in one yard.
Most families pick one: a backyard built for the kids, or one built for guests. This property had to be both — somewhere the children could spend whole afternoons, and somewhere the adults could host a dinner party without it looking like a playground.
The design answer was a playful centrepiece set inside an elegant frame: a multi-hole putting green for the golf-loving family, surrounded by a stone patio, classical balustrades, decorative screens and container gardens that turn the whole space into a botanical showcase.
Zone by zone
The putting green keeps the kids busy. The patio, screens, planters and water hold the adults. The fire pit carries it all into fall.

A professional-grade synthetic turf green with multiple holes and flags — entertainment for every age, from dad working on his short game to the kids learning the sport.
It stays lush year-round with no watering, mowing or fertilizing, and holds up through Winnipeg’s freeze–thaw cycles.

Layered arrangements of chrysanthemums, bold coleus, cascading petunias and ornamental plants in curated colour palettes turn the patio into a botanical showcase.
Because they move, the homeowners can refresh the look every season and put colour exactly where it’s needed.

A neutral stone paver patio forms the foundation, complementing both the house and the colourful planting while taking heavy family foot traffic.
Classical white balustrades add a touch of European elegance and a refined backdrop for the containers.
More on patios and walkways.
A contemporary water feature adds the sound of moving water, masking neighbourhood noise and giving the eye a focal point.
Decorative metal privacy screens with scrollwork cast moving shadows through the day, and an elevated fire pit lounge extends the season well into fall.
