Artificial grass · Winnipeg
Lazy Lawn and Bella Turf artificial grass, installed on a drainage base built for our clay — pocket lawns, dog runs, putting greens and play surfaces that never need mowing, watering or reseeding.
The pitch for turf is usually “no mowing.” In Winnipeg the better argument is the four areas of a yard where real grass never had a chance anyway.
The strip beside the garage that gets no sun. The patch the dog has reduced to mud and yellow rings. The fifteen feet between the deck and the fence that is too small to be worth a mower. The play area that is dirt by the end of June. Those are the places turf earns its money — not necessarily the whole front lawn.
What makes or breaks an install here is what is underneath it. Turf laid on our clay without a proper excavated, compacted and free-draining base will hold water, freeze unevenly and ripple. We build the base like we build a patio base, run the perimeter so the edges cannot lift, and seam and infill so the surface stays flat through freeze-thaw.
We are a Lazy Lawn partner and a Bella Turf dealer, which means you are choosing from real products with published specs and warranties — not “premium turf” off an unnamed roll.
Where it works best
You do not have to replace a whole lawn. Most of our turf work is a defined area that real grass has already lost.

Small, awkward or shaded areas where grass thins out and reseeding never takes. Perfect green, permanently.

Non-absorbent, drainable and rinsable. No mud on the floor in April, no yellow rings all summer.

True-roll practice greens with ball speed tuned by infill, contoured and fringed to suit the yard.

Soft, consistent landing surfaces that stay usable right through the wettest part of spring.
The honest comparison
We install and maintain a great deal of real lawn too, so this is not a sales pitch against grass — it is where each one actually wins.

Our most popular. The light emerald colour and W-shaped blade keep the surface cooler in the harshest heat.

Short but extremely stocky. The diamond blade takes serious punishment from both dogs and kids.

Don’t let the density fool you — thin but robust dark green blades that are nearly indestructible. The value pick.

Made to fool every sceptic. The dark green and yellow blend has people second-guessing whether it is real.

Bella Turf makes artificial grass designed specifically for Canadians, and has been recognised as one of the best artificial grass companies in Canada for over six years. We’re proud to partner with Bella Turf, offering their premium landscape, playground, pet and putting green systems.

Under the turf
Turf is a surface. Everything that decides whether it stays flat, drains and holds its edges happens before the roll comes off the truck — which is exactly the same argument we make about patios.
Sod and topsoil removed to depth. Turf laid over clay traps water, and trapped water in Manitoba means frost movement.
Granular base placed in lifts and compacted, graded to shed water. This is what keeps the surface flat and dry underfoot.
Every perimeter fixed and restrained — against curbing, hardscape or a buried edge. Lifted edges are the number one turf failure.
Seams joined so they disappear, infill spread to the right weight for the product, and the pile brushed up so it stands.

The shaded strip, the dog run, the mud by the gate. Those are the areas where turf pays for itself fastest.
How it goes
We measure the area, look at drainage and shade, and bring physical samples of every product above so you can compare blade, pile and feel.
Turf selected against use — pets, kids, golf, looks — with the base spec, edge detail and infill written into the quote.
Clay out, granular base in lifts and compacted, turf laid, seamed, cut in, fixed at every edge, infilled and power-brushed.
Rinsing, brushing, pet areas, and what to avoid in winter. Warranty paperwork handed over with it.

Turf questions
Installed projects typically run $5,000 – $20,000. The turf itself is $2.66 – $5.92 per square foot depending on the product; the rest is excavation, base and edge work, which is why a small awkward area can cost more per foot than a large simple one. Quotes are free and itemised.
15 to 25 years with minimal maintenance, less in a heavily used dog run. Lazy Lawn products carry a 12-year product warranty plus our 3-year installation warranty; Bella Turf carries a 15-year warranty.
Yes — modern turf is non-toxic and lead-free. Pet products use non-absorbent backing so urine drains through and rinses away instead of sitting in the surface, which is what causes odour in cheap installs.
It can be warmer than natural grass on a hot day. Blade shape and colour matter — Lemongrass and Bella’s WaveBlade™ products are specifically designed to run cooler, up to about 10 degrees cooler in Bella’s case — and shade or a rinse makes a real difference.
Nothing happens to it. Turf overwinters under snow and comes out green in April while a real lawn is still recovering. You can shovel it — skip metal-edged shovels and gritty ice melt, and let the last of it melt off rather than chipping at ice.
